Stan Getz: The Best of The Verve Years, Volume 2.
Getz recorded prolifically and this makes for both a fine representative sampling and just plain good listening. It's 3:45 AM and I can't sleep so a little soul-soothing music from "The Sound" is welcome.(IMG:http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21HNT2W24CL._SL500_AA130_.jpg)

Has Anyone ever heard this tribute album Herbie Hancock did to Miles David in 1994? just came across it on Wiki.

No, I haven't heard it.
I was planning to when it first came out, and then completly forgot about it until today. Just a 15 years long senior moment.
I've heard nothing but praises about Wallace Roney but never actually heard him. As for the rest of the line-up, they're all jazz heroes of mine.
Maybe I should check it out.
Any thought from other members of this club ?

Charles Mingus - the Ken Burns compilation. I'm new to jazz but I love this disc. I also have The Essential Thelonius Monk which I also really like. The players on both of these are tremendous. And the tones are very exciting...

Alright, I just got this album today in the post, and love it, have listened to it like 3 times already today. Especially the first track 'Well, You Needn't', on for like 12 minutes the drum solo near the end at around 9 mins is phenomenal. Guess ill sound like an amateur as its only greatest hits, im not usually a compilation person (more likely to go out and buy all the albums anyway lol) myself but sometimes theyre appropriate and i only bought it cos it was cheap. only cost me like £1 odds what a steal!

(IMG:http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf600/f647/f64706f8mwt.jpg)Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners

Thelonious Monk - piano
Ernie Henry - alto sax
Sonny Rollins - tenor sax
Oscar Pettiford - bass
Max Roach - drums
On "Bemsha Swing":Clark Terry, trumpet; Paul Chambers - bass
Recorded December 1956

Not your run of the mill, straight ahead jazz session. I guess I can sort of understand why non jazz fans may have issues with Monk's angular playing. He's definitely an acquired taste. That said, I really dig this one. Nice lineup.

Hell, it took me 10 years to get used to Monk, but the patience and effort was worth it. You've picked one of my favorite Monk albums. This morning's drive was powered by Monk-Big Band and Quartet In Concert.

Tortoise- Although not purely jazz artists they lean more towards the electronic side of things but is interesting to hear. Anyone?
Also I think they come under 'Jazz Fusion' amongst other things..
