Jay-Z will have his eleventh number one album, beating Elvis' record of ten.

I hope you're happy, America

I don't get all the hype with Jay-Z. I think the vast majority of his work is utter crapl. The only songs I liked of his were all co-written by actual talent... or at least two half-talents made one full song.

My friends tried to say he was great because he "freestyled" every song, but then I found evidence against that. Other people said it was the backbeats he chose, but I found the instrumental version of one of them, and it sounded like a drummer in a head-to-head noise battle against a 100-slide chemistry analyzer.

When he was on Chris Rock's show a while back, I was actually prepped for a decent song. I don't know which song it was, but he spent at least the first thirty seconds building you up for something epic. "It's about to blow up" and shiat like that. Then the moment of truth comes and, bam, the song is slow as hell. The beat sounds almost exactly like a loopback of the warm-up phase of an MRI machine. The dancers are going completely insane, though in unison, to what must have been a completely different song on their concealed Ipods. Jay-Z is just barking away as if the beat didn't even exist.

I just. Don't. Get it.

Jay-Z Breaks Elvis Album Record
Jay-Z is set to score his 11th American number one album, overtaking Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most chart-toppers in US chart history.

The rap star's new album Blueprint 3 is on course to top the Billboard 200 chart, taking him past Elvis's record of 10 number ones.

Billboard said the 39-year-old had so far shifted 476,000 copies of the LP.

The Beatles are still the most successful act on the US chart, with 19 US number one albums under their belt.

The Fab Four also feature heavily on the US chart this week following the release of their remastered back catalogue.

The reissued albums have shifted a total of 626,000 copies in the US since being released last week.

The best-selling remastered album was 1969's Abbey Road, which sold 89,000 copies.

Meanwhile, Madonna has just notched up her 40th number one single in the US dance charts with Celebration.

Jay Z has a style that he is between rapping and singing, it give his singing a more streaming feeling. But I think it is his image because there are Rap singers that are hardcore Rap and can do more than him and they don't get even 1% of his popularity.

I'm very heavily into Rap and Jay-Z is one of my absolute favorites. When I'm in the mood, you'll hear his music in my van while I'm driving down the highway. The cat is dope. My congratulations to him, and I wish him many more great albums to come. H to the izzo, v to the izza! After I purchased his last two albums, I felt my money was well spent. Madonna is too cool for school as well, IMO. I have ALL of her hit songs. I still dig Elvis, and Lawd today, The Beatles will always be hype. They were super.

The above link presents the iraa statistics for amount of sales and I don't understand how they calculate but it seems to me Jay-Z is very strong and powerful in the singles world and he is also not bad in the albums world with 26M.

But also remember that the Beatles and Elvis are selling music for 50-60 years so Jay-Z might surpass one day also in the albums.

Marvel, I couldn't agree more that there are many fine Rap singers in the thousands who haven't, and probably will never, reach Jay-Z's pinnacle of success. I've been diggin' the cat for many years and he definitely has that SOMETHING that makes his art and style appealing to me. Man, what I would have given to have seen him at Madison Sq. Garden recently. Kanye West, all of his stupid shenanigans aside, is also a tremendous rapper. That girl, Taylor Swift, who he grabbed the mic from at the VMA's recently is also a great young singer. It was just a ploy to make Beyonce (Jay-Z's wife) look good, and that was unnecessary. I became a lifelong fan of Taylor Swift's just last Christmas.

Hi John4y, I think not only stupidity but bad taste. Why an artist cannot appreciate another artist's recognition? That strikes me. Also, Jay-Z is known as defender of people vs evil people (at least one beaten girl he defended against her husband who beats her).

Maybe he is the one who sent Mr. West? We will never know the answer, maybe it was all a gimmick, and behind the scenes they were all laughing out loud?

That's swell, Marvel, and certainly a lot of maybes. I was thinking, perhaps, the color of Swift's skin (white). Kanye, IMO, is just a big baby. Did you hear about how he cried about it to Jay Leno? Marvel, I'll dedicate one of my songs to him, "Cry Me A River".  Hey, man, kudos to Jay-Z for defending that woman whose husband, or boyfriend, battered her. NO woman should have to go through that sh*t.

Though his music ain't my cup of whatever, I saw him being interviewed on Bill Maher the other night and he seems completely cool and extra smart. I liked him a lot, and maybe I'll give his music a second chance at some point.

You can hear it here.

Well put.

I believe it's probably all about marketing. You tell them what they want loud enough and long enough, they'll want it.
